Merlene Ottey-Page is one of the greatest female sprinters in history, known for her incredible longevity, versatility, and consistency throughout her 24-year career. Born in Cold Spring, Hanover, Jamaica, Ottey made her international debut in 1978 and continued to compete at the highest level for over two decades. She represented Jamaica in seven Olympic Games from 1980 to 2000, winning nine medals—three silver and six bronze—making her one of the most decorated female Olympians in track and field. She competed for Slovenia in her final Olympic appearance at the 2004 Athens Games.
Ottey dominated the 100m and 200m events, setting personal bests of 10.74 seconds in the 100m and 21.64 seconds in the 200m. In addition to her Olympic success, she was a force at the World Championships, amassing 14 medals, including three golds. Ottey also shone at the Commonwealth Games, securing three golds and two silvers. Her career achievements were further bolstered by her participation in the Pan American Games and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, where she also won medals.
