Les Laing is a distinguished Jamaican sprinter known for his pivotal role in Jamaica’s early success on the global athletics stage. Born in Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica, Laing initially made his mark as a 200m specialist but also excelled in relay events. His career reached its peak during the 1950s when he represented Jamaica in two Olympic Games and secured a gold medal in the 4x400m relay at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.

Before his Olympic success, Laing competed at the 1948 London Olympics in the 200m event and the 4x400m relay, showing his versatility and talent. At the 1952 Helsinki Games, Laing ran the third leg of Jamaica’s historic 4x400m relay team, which won gold and set a new world record.
